Southport’s Inner Suburbs
Harry Foster

This publication, new in Summer 2012, tells the previously neglected story of Southport’s Inner Suburbs, away from the sea front and the town centre. It covers the areas taken into the original township in 1865. It is the story of the Hesketh Park area and the forgotten hamlets of Little Ireland and Westward, along with the inland spread of the town along Boundary Street, Duke Street, Portland Street, Scarisbrick New Road, Virginia Street, Kensington Road, Sussex Road, Norwood Avenue and Wennington Road. It covers Meols Cop, Blowick and Kew, along with the forgotten hamlets of Hawes Side, Little London and Ecclesfield. It also includes the area reclaimed from the beach when the Promenade was extended north beyond the former Promenade Hospital. It could well be the story of where you, or your relatives, live or have lived. The readable and enlightening text is extensively illustrated, many of the 128 images being published here for the first time. Detailed maps support the text. The result is an informed and authoritative history from an author who has already written thirteen best selling local history books.

It is a limited edition of 500 copies.

The price is £21 per copy.
